In Good Company? Personal Relationships, Network Embeddedness, and Social Inclusion

How do individuals’ networks of personal relationships affect their social in? and exclusion? Researchers have shown that micro?level, informal can be highly consequential for inclusion, but in complex, contradictory ways: Personal reflect the degree relational exclusion protect against (other forms of) exclusion, they also erode conditions reproduce exclusion. While network researchers widely studied some these mechanisms, yet to embrace others. Therefore, this thematic issue reconsiders complex relationship between inclusion. It offers a unique vantage point by bringing together who work with different marginalised groups, typically separately: refugees, transnational migrants, indigenous people, older people experiencing poverty, LGBT women experienced domestic violence. This combination allows us detect commonalities differences functioning across historically excluded groups. editorial lays theoretical groundwork discusses key contributions seventeen articles compose issue. We call more attention expectations, reciprocity support flows, contextual embeddedness, question universally adopted binaries such as bonding bridging capital.
